Rose of Jericho
(Sellaginella lepidophylla)
A plant which never dies! A miracle of nature, because
this plant can live for centuries without water and soil, even in extreme
heat and cold. You can let this amazing plant blossom out and wither
as often as you want to. Without a garden, without soil, inside or outside.
Seeing it for the first time, you wouldn't believe that this lifeless
tuber can turn into a lush green plant.
Instruction:
In order to let the Rose of Jericho blossom out, douse it with cold,
warm, hot or even with boiling water, which would kill every other
plant. Then, you will see an almost unbelievable miracle of nature.
New life comes into the apperently lifeless leaves. The single twigs
open up more and more and in about 90 minutes the rose will be blossomed
marvellous green. Then you take the rose out of the water, put it onto
a plate and water it daily.
The rose should only be kept wet for no more then 8 days. Afterwards
it has to be put at a dry and warm place. After 2 days the rose has dried
up completely so that you can have this natural spectacle again.
The Rose of Jericho is native to arid areas. Dried out, it forms a gray-green
ball, but in water it spreads out and gets lush green. The plant always
lives, never dies, always has the same ability for blossoming out and
is transmitted to generation of generation.
